Recruitment

Recruiting players

Open Day

Players are recruited by means of holding a ‘Bring a Friend’ open day in October of each year.
Flyers are created to advertise the open day to a wider audience.
A list of local schools is researched to obtain the head teacher’s name.
A letter is written to the Head asking for permission to distribute the flyers.

Local primary and secondary schools are then sent leaflets, a poster and the “Bring a Friend’ flyers by post or, more effectively, by hand.

After the “Bring a Friend” day the new attendees are sent a follow-up letter with a ‘Special Offer’ introductory membership fee – typically a reduction of 25% on the annual subscription.

This procedure should recruit up to 30 new players in the age range 6 to 16 each year.

Club members who teach in schools

Any PE teachers are asked to display the club poster, are given club leaflets and are asked to encourage their children to come along to training sessions.

County coaching

Existing coaches are encouraged to coach at the Player Development Centres.
Players not already playing club hockey are encouraged to join.
It is club policy never to ask a junior player to leave another club to join us.

Recruiting volunteers

Parents

Parents who show an interest in the sessions are invited to help on a casual basis.
If the coach is impressed with the parents they are invited to take a Level 1 course and be added to the coaching register.
The Level 1 course fee is reimbursed by the club after 6 coaching sessions.

Senior club members

Players (especially in the first teams) are encouraged to come along to the open day and to help with the coaching generally. If interest is shown they are invited to take Level 1.
The Level 1 course fee is reimbursed by the club after 6 coaching sessions.

Coaching fee subsidy

Volunteers who want to take a Level 2 award have 50% of the fee subsidised by the club.
The Level 2 course fee balance is reimbursed by the club after 6 coaching sessions.

Strategy Responsibility

The Youth Committee is responsible for reviewing the recruitment strategy of players and volunteers.
