KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE – INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

SAFETY AND WELFARE ISSUES

Chelmsford Hockey Club has an excellent reputation for safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of its youth members. In order to maintain these standards it is vital that parents take full responsibility, make a mutual commitment and play a full role together with the managers, coaching staff and adult members for maintaining this. Chelmsford Hockey Club adopts all the recommended health, safety and welfare guidelines from England Hockey. This includes:

  • First aid procedures.
  • Procedures for the reporting of accidents and injuries.
  • Child Protection and Welfare Policy.
  • Equity Policy.

All managers and coaches are expected to adhere to the principles and practices outlined in these documents. As part of their training, all managers and coaches should be given child protection awareness training. Copies of all of these policies are available from the Junior Coaching Co-ordinators at England Hockey or from http://www.englandhockey.co.uk.

REPORTING PARENTAL CONCERNS

If at any time you have concerns about the health, safety or welfare of your child whilst s/he is involved with Chelmsford Hockey Club then you must report it immediately to the coaching staff. If you do not feel able to discuss it with the coaching staff then you may report it directly to the club’s Child Protection Officer. In accordance with the guidelines from England Hockey she is available to parents and will listen to them and then deal appropriately with reported concerns.

Chelmsford Hockey Club’s Child Protection Officer is Rosie Maxey 01245 248140

If there is an allegation or disclosure of abuse or neglect against an adult then the CPO will decide the appropriate actions, which may include:

  • Informing Essex Social Services
  • Informing Essex Police Child Protection Officer

For further information regarding child welfare issues please contact the England Hockey Child Welfare Officer by phoning 01906 544612 and asking for Alison Hogg or emailing her at alison.hogg@englandhockey.org.

GOING HOME PROCEDURES

It must be remembered that hockey is a sport played through the Winter season, often in adverse weather conditions. Therefore:

  • Parents or a nominated responsible adult must deliver children (under 12 years old) to dand collect them from the pitch, not allowing them to walk across the grounds or wait alone in the car park or in the clubhouse. Children are to be reminded by their parents or carers that they MUST remain with the managers and coaches at all times until the adult collecting them arrives.
  • If a child (under 12) is to make their own way home then written permission must be submitted to the managers or coaches.
  • In the event of a child not being picked up after training or a match then the manager or coach will attempt to contact the parents. If the parents are out of contact the manager or coach will not leave the child unaccompanied. As a rule managers and coaches will not take children in their car without permission. Lone children should only be taken in the back seat of a car. In extreme cases the CPO will be informed of a child who has been left and if necessary the police may be informed.
