ZEVENBERGEN VISIT
Friday 30 April to Monday 03 May 2010
Calling all Parents and Players!
We are pleased to announce the return of the ‘Flying Dutchmen’!
Following our successful tour to Holland in May this year, we are pleased to announce that the youth of Zevenbergen HC will be visiting Chelmer Park next May. Our weekend may also include youth teams from Lisbon and Veterans teams from Chelmsford, Zevenbergen and Lisbon, so we can look forward to even more hockey and fun than before!
The weekend is open to all players in school years’ 8 – 13. We aim to field 3 girls’ and 3 boys’ teams and, for the event to go ahead, we need a minimum of 50 playing participants spread over the age range.
Briefly, we will be playing friendly games - boys/girls mixed ages and nationalities – on Saturday followed by an evening event for all the family. Sunday sees the real competition - playing hockey for the Chelmsford/Zevenbergen Trophy + a Hog Roast, presentations and possibly Karaoke in the evening. All players will be expected to stay at the club until 11pm on Sunday (Under 14’s to 10pm) to entertain our guests, who will return to Holland early on Monday morning.
At the moment we need you to respond using the form attached so that we can gauge interest. We would ask for a payment of £20 deposit which confirms players’ commitment to take part in the weekend’s activities. The final cost for playing participants is likely to be £40 (tbc). This will include all meals, hockey fees and evening entertainment on both nights. It must be noted that, without everyone’s help and co-operation, this event cannot take place. Please be assured that the effort put in is more than balanced by the great fun you will have! Those who went to Zevenbergen this year, and those who were involved when we last hosted in 2006, will tell you what a great time they had - and those who didn’t are welcome to come along and find out!
Parents, please indicate where you feel you might be able to help. At this stage, the form is generalized; nearer the time we will ask you when/how you prefer to help, e.g. hosting some of the younger players if it was needed? Breakfast and lunch duties, cooking part of the main meal? The more helpers we have, the easier it will be: we will be catering for nearly 200 people but hope that we can divide it up so that one person would cook a dish for 30 people. Alternatively, is there anyone with catering connections? This is only one area, but a good example of how the workload can be shared.
We will be holding an information evening for parents and players after the mixed games at the Christmas Social Evening on Monday 14 December. Refreshments will be served and the bar will be open.
We need volunteers to make the weekend run smoothly, so please come forward. Feel free to speak to us if it will help you to make up your mind - it really is worthwhile and fun!!
