Half Time: 1 - 0 / Full Time: 5 - 2 1st Half Goals: 2nd Half Goals: Safe from relegation from the Champions Cup competition, Chelmsford, were playing for 5th and 6th place in the tournament. The side from Madrid came closest to scoring in the early stages of the first half, with Hayley Heggie and Lisa Wooding clearing from the goal mouth on a number of occasions. Julia Butterworth forced a save from the Spanish goal keeper on 9 minutes and the club from Madrid put their first penalty corner wide. With around 4 minutes of the first half left to play Lisa Wooding made two saves on the goal line after Katy Roberts had been beaten. Lotte Sluiter sneaked in Madrid's goal with 1 minute left on the clock, producing a 1-nil halftime score. The second period of play started with Lisa Wooding's knee connecting with the ball on the goal line, the Umpire, made a correct decision and gave a penalty stroke. Silvia Maurique converted the chance for the Spanish side to go two goals up. Wooding went off injured for a short period and then returned to the field of play. She later went off for the rest of the game. As the game progressed the match was dogged with poor Umpiring decisions. Chelmsford protested the penalty corner awarded on 23 minutes, but the Umpire let it stand, and Madrid shot wide. Again, Heggie popped up in the goal mouth to rescue the Essex squad, and Tracey Comber managed to make the Spanish 'keeper save with her foot. On 28 minutes, Heggie fired home to bring some relief for Chelmsford and make it 2 - 1. But Sluiter extended Madrid's lead to 3 - 1 on 29 minutes and Chelmsford shot wide on their first penalty corner of the match. Sluiter appeared on the score sheet again with Madrid's 4th goal and the game was over for Chelmsford. Katy Roberts came off for Hayley Heggie to take up the kicking-back position with 5 minutes to go, just before Chloe Rogers added to Chelmsford's score-line. Pilar Sanchez rounded off a good victory for the Spanish side with their 5th of the game. Chelmsford finish 6th overall in the Eurohockey Indoor Club Champions Cup 2007 and there will be an English team in this competition next year. |
