Half Time: 5 - 1 / Full Time: 6 - 4 1st Half Goals: 2nd Half Goals: The side from Belarus proved more than a match for Chelmsford, with many of the opposition's players having just come back from the Indoor World Cup, in Vienna. Lisa Wooding missed a penalty flick and it wasn't till the stroke of half-time that the Essex side had anything to celebrate, Wooding sank a penalty corner making it 5 - 1. The second half started much better for the Chelmer Park team, two goals in quick succession by Wooding and fellow England team-mate, Chloe Rogers, brought them back into the match. Volha Shyntar, the Rhythm captain, ended any chances of a Chelmsford fight-back with two goals. Maria Merrigan added one final goal with 2 minutes left on the clock. There was lots to be pleased about in Chelmsford's performance, plenty of penalty corner chances, as they go forward to their next game against French side, Cambrai this afternoon at 1700 local time. Chelmsford goal keeper, Katy Roberts, says she was hoping for a better result: "One of our key aims was to win this opening match. They've had the advantage and many of the team from Belarus have been in Vienna for their national side and that's a clear advantage of having a team in that competition." "In the first 5 minutes they very quickly got the ball into our area and we weren't as quick on the ball. We can do something about this in the next match and the second half we played much better." Katy Roberts has been out with a knee injury and says this was the first game of hockey she had played in for sometime, but was encouraged by her own performance. "It was always going to be a challenge for me personally. I think there was some good things for me and I'll try and take them forward with the next game of the tournament." |
