A 1-0 lead at half-time gave no indication of what was to come in the second half of the game between the 5th XI and Old Southendians 5s. The 5s created numerous chances in the opening half but had been only able to convert one, via a Scot Reilley field goal. The game had a remarkable turn around after the break as the Old Boys first drew level and then took a 2-1 lead. Goals were then exchange at regular intervals as we gained parity, lost the lead and then brought the game back to 3-3, 4-4 and then 5-5 thanks to goals from Simon Payne (2),Scot Reilley and David Farmer. A breakaway solo effort from Scot Reilley gave us the lead 5 minutes from time and then David Farmer sealed the victory with a goal that brought up a 7-5 score line. What a game! We head for the Christmas break top of the league. |
